The 2020 ONS Annual Meeting was held on February 1, 2020 at the Samis Education Center on the Health Sciences Center Campus in Oklahoma City.                                                                                  Talks were given on spine, skull base, vascular, tumor, opioids, and functional neurosurgery. Attendees earned 4.5 CME credits and completed the opioid education reqiuired by the OK Medical Board.  Nearly 50 people attended the conference with our first out-of-state attendee and our first medical student attendees!                                                                    The Honored Guests were Dr. Ossama Al-Mefty and Dr. Christopher Loftus. Dr. Ian Dunn was elected to be the ONS President for 2020 and Dr. Caple Spence was elected as the President-Elect for 2021.

Dr. Ossama Al-Mefty is Director of Skull Base Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and is one of the true pioneers of skull base neurosurgery, with particular interest and expertise in meningioma and chordoma.  He has published over 500 papers,  eleven books, and has given over 1,000 lectures worldwide.  

 

Dr. Christopher Loftus is a Professor of Neurosurgery at Temple University in Philadelphia. He has served as the Chair of the Neurosurgery Department at the University of Oklahoma, Temple University, and Loyola University. He is world renowned for his work on carotid disease and currently hold the position of Chief Medical Officer, Division of Neurological and Physical Medicine Devices with the Food and Drug Administration.
